Pride, Friendship, and the Joy of Being Holly
Celebrating Crossdressing with Friends Old and New
By Holly Monroe
There is something truly magical about Pride Month.
The colorful flags. The smiling faces. The music. The laughter. The feeling of community that seems to fill the air wherever a Pride celebration takes place.
But for many crossdressers, Pride is about something even more meaningful.
It’s about stepping out into the world as your authentic self and discovering that you are not alone.
For much of my life, crossdressing was a private experience.
It was something I enjoyed in quiet moments. A favorite dress hanging in the closet. A pretty pair of heels carefully tucked away. The excitement of putting together the perfect outfit and spending time as Holly.
Those moments were wonderful.
But there is something completely different about sharing that experience with others.
That is where Pride comes in.
Pride events create a unique opportunity to celebrate who you are in a welcoming and joyful environment. They provide a place where self-expression is encouraged, individuality is celebrated, and authenticity shines brighter than ever.
One of the best parts of attending Pride as a crossdresser is the friendships.
Some friends you’ve known for years.
Some friends you’ve only just met.
Yet somehow everyone seems connected by a shared understanding that being yourself is something worth celebrating.
You may arrive at a Pride festival feeling nervous.
You may spend extra time choosing the perfect outfit.
Perhaps it’s a pretty pink dress.
Maybe it’s a colorful skirt and blouse.
Or perhaps it’s those heels you’ve been waiting all year to wear in public.
You take a deep breath and step into the crowd.
And then something wonderful happens.
The fear starts to fade.
The smiles begin.
The conversations start naturally.
Before long you’re laughing with old friends and meeting new people who appreciate you exactly as you are.
Some of my favorite Pride memories aren’t the parades or the entertainment.
They’re the moments spent talking with people who understand the journey.
The first-time crossdresser who is attending their very first event.
The experienced crossdresser offering encouragement and advice.
The supportive friend who simply says, “You look fabulous.”
The stranger who becomes a friend by the end of the day.
These moments remind us that community matters.
Pride is one of the few places where many crossdressers discover just how many others share similar experiences, dreams, fears, and triumphs.
What begins as a day of dressing up often becomes a day of connection.
And perhaps most importantly, Pride offers something many crossdressers spend years searching for:
The confidence to be seen.
There is incredible freedom in no longer hiding.
Freedom in wearing the clothes that make you happy.
Freedom in expressing your feminine side.
Freedom in realizing that authenticity feels much better than fear.
When you attend Pride dressed as your true self, you are doing more than wearing an outfit.
You are making a statement.
You are telling yourself that your happiness matters.
You are telling the world that you deserve to exist exactly as you are.
And you are showing other people who may still be struggling that they are not alone.
That may be the greatest gift of all.
Every crossdresser who attends Pride openly and confidently helps create a world where others feel safe to do the same.
Whether you’re attending your first Pride event or your fiftieth, remember to enjoy every moment.
Take pictures.
Dance.
Laugh.
Reconnect with old friends.
Make new ones.
Wear the outfit that makes your heart happy.
Most of all, celebrate yourself.
Because Pride isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about having the courage to show the world who you’ve been all along.
And trust me, the world is a brighter place when the real you is allowed to shine.
Happy Pride Month, my beautiful friends.
I hope to see you out there smiling, celebrating, and creating unforgettable memories with friends old and new.
With love,
Holly Monroe 💖🌈👠
